How to Create a Green Environment in Your Home

Creating a truly green environment inside the home is something very simple, and which can be done in many different ways.

For example, filling your home with plants or greenery has a way of changing the surroundings in different ways that you have never imagined. This is because plants blend in with nearly all decorating styles. Additionally, plants can add color and life to any room.

If you want to give the rooms in your home a seashore, country, or romantic mood, trust the plants to do exactly that. Naturally, plants have proven to improve the moods of people just by having a look at them, and are known to create some sense of tranquility and calmness known to reduce stress.

Sustainability reports show that houseplants have a way of lowering stress levels. The reports go further to show that plants have a way of increasing an individual’s creativity and level of productivity, no wonder many buildings today have one or two plants in the workplaces.

Considering the many chemical reactions and processes that take place inside a home, different odors can circulate through the home and affect the atmosphere. However, environmental sustainability can be created inside the home and its surroundings by use of some fragrant plants to cover up the odors. These plants have even replaced the need of using air fresheners.

For example, hyacinths have proven to contain this wonderful aroma which can penetrate every corner of the entire home. It would be wise if you could first smell the fragrant plants before buying them so that you can know what types of smell you would be bringing in your home.

On the other hand, considering the chemicals emitted to the environment by different factories and the likes, environmental sustainability has greatly been threatened, which in turn has threatened the human health as people breath in these noxious chemicals day in day out. You can filter chemicals and clean the air by using plants. Things like carpets and furniture are known to have a toxic material known as formaldehyde. Ferns, chrysanthemum, spider plants, etc are known to help get rid of such toxins.

During the summer, it is common to see people using air conditioners to cool the air, which sadly, brings about air borne bacteria and eye irritations and headaches ensue. Plants can help not only get rid of these bacteria but also reduce the symptoms. This they do through their leaves by drawing in chemicals emitted and transporting them through the plant tissues to the roots.

Peace lilies and palms are two plants which have proven to draw toxic chemicals from things like computers and other appliances and converting the chemicals into their food and energy. That said, sustainability reports indicate that despite the many eco-friendly benefits of houseplants, many people loathe the idea of having plants in their homes as they fail to maintain them and keep them alive. The idea here is to buy plants, such as the spiders plants, which are easy to care for and plants such as mother-in-tongue which need very little care to thrive and flourish.
